Our Story
For those who don’t know me my name is Oliver and I started Eat Me Exotics back in 2019 in a tiny one bedroom apartment in Sydney to share my love for these spectacular plants. Sign up for our news letter to keep updated on what nepenthes we have for sale and a few other amazing plants.
Back in 2017 I was gifted my first Nepenthes a stunning Rebecca Soper and from that moment I was hooked. I have always loved plants and nature but never lived anywhere suitable to grow anything, but I decided that was going to change. After getting home I dived into the internet searching high and low for every bit of information I could find on growing these plants, where to buy more, what did I need to do to keep them happy. before long I got my hands on my first carnivorous plant seeds (mixed sarracenia and drosera packs) and sowed all of them with the thought “surely these won’t all grow”…. sure enough they did and suddenly I was chasing shelving, pots, trays and grow lights to try and figure out what to do with them all.
Fast forward a few years and my passion for the spectacular plants has continued to grow, last year with the help of my amazing partner we moved into a great house and with that gave me the room to expand everything in a big way. On top of that a lot of my prized plants finally hit flowering size and the breeding program has got the boost it needed. So while things here my be launching small with the choices of stock but over the next few years I have some very exciting stuff in the works and will expand the catalogue.
My goal is to bring a new level of exciting hybrids and species bred right here in Australia. This year I’ve had the chance to work with some fantastic growers to create some Australia first hybrids and possibly some world firsts. These plants will take some time to establish but I’m very excited to be able to offer them in the years to come. I will also continue to take cuttings of a lot of my own favorite plants for those looking for larger plants from the start.
